Heavy Duty Towing in Putnam Valley, NY

When the job calls for serious muscle, Citywide Automotive & Towing delivers. Since 1924 our heavy-duty fleet and WreckMaster-trained operators have handled tractor-trailers, box trucks, buses, RVs and heavy equipment across Putnam Valley and the Hudson Valley — 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Heavy-duty recovery is not scaled-up light-duty towing. A loaded tractor-trailer off the shoulder needs different equipment, different rigging and different judgment than a car in a ditch — and getting it wrong turns a recovery into a second accident. Our operators are WreckMaster-trained and ASE-certified, and we have been working Hudson Valley highways for a century.

Whether you are a fleet manager with a truck down on I-84, an owner-operator blocking a lane on Route 6, or an insurer coordinating a recovery, one call to 845-603-6900 reaches a dispatcher who can put the right rig on the road.

The Right Rig for the Job

Heavy-duty work is decided by the iron you can put on scene. We run our own recovery units and our own trailers, which means we can match the equipment to the job instead of making the wrong tool work.

Recovery units

  • Rotators — for complex lifts and recoveries where there is no clean straight pull: rollovers, awkward angles, vehicles over an embankment or against a barrier.
  • 50-ton wrecker — our heaviest unit, for loaded tractor-trailers, coach buses and the recoveries that smaller trucks cannot safely attempt.
  • 25-ton wrecker — medium and heavy work: box trucks, dump trucks, single-axle tractors and equipment.
  • Tractor — for relocating disabled trailers and hauling our own trailer fleet to site.

Trailers and transport

  • Landoll Traveler, detachable and traveling axle — loads non-running and low-clearance equipment that cannot be winched onto a conventional deck.
  • Low bed trailer — tall and oversized machinery that will not clear height limits on a standard deck.
  • Flat deck trailer — general equipment and machinery haulage.
  • Dry van trailer — for transferring freight off a trailer that cannot continue, so the load keeps moving even when the truck does not.
  • Reefer trailer, temperature controlled — for perishable and temperature-sensitive loads. If a refrigerated trailer goes down, the clock on the cargo is the real emergency, and most operators have nowhere to put it.
  • Dump trailer — debris, spilled material and site clearance.

Not sure what your job needs? Describe what you are looking at when you call and our dispatcher will work it out — that is what a century of this is for.

What We Handle

  • Tractor-trailer and semi recovery — loaded or empty, on the shoulder or off it.
  • Rollover and accident recovery — uprighting, extraction and clearing the scene so the road can reopen.
  • Winch-outs and off-road recovery — mud, embankments, ditches and soft shoulders.
  • Load shifts, decking and un-decking — including cargo transfer to a second trailer.
  • Box truck, dump truck and bus towing — commercial and municipal vehicles of every description.
  • Heavy equipment transport — excavators, loaders, bucket trucks, drill rigs and other machinery, running or not.
  • RV and motorhome recovery — oversized vehicles that most light-duty operators will not touch.
  • Commercial roadside response — jump starts, air, tires and fuel for fleet vehicles, 24/7.

Yes — we handle load adjustments, decking and un-decking, and cargo transfer to a second trailer when a load cannot continue as it is.

Heavy-duty work is quoted per job rather than off a flat rate, because the equipment, crew and time involved vary enormously between a straightforward tow and a complex recovery. Tell us what you are looking at and we will explain what it will take before we roll.

Your location and direction of travel, the type and approximate weight of the vehicle, whether it is loaded, whether it is still on the pavement, and whether anyone is injured or the road is blocked. That tells our dispatcher which rig to send.

Yes. We handle insurance claims and coordinate with adjusters and motor clubs regularly. Bring your claim details to the call and we will work with your provider.

Yes. Ditch, embankment and off-road recoveries are routine heavy-duty work for us — we winch out vehicles and equipment from mud, soft shoulders and terrain a tow truck cannot simply back up to.

Yes. We work with fleets, contractors, municipalities and insurers throughout the Hudson Valley. Call 845-603-6900 to set up an account.
